The Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA) is a pending piece of legislation. The bill states that it would "amend the National Labor Relations Act to establish an easier system to enable employees to form, join, or assist labor organizations, to provide for mandatory injunctions for unfair labor practices during organizing efforts, and for other purposes.” The latest version was introduced into both chambers of the U.S. Congress on March 10, 2009.
Some news reports say that EFCA would enable working people to bargain for better benefits, wages and working conditions by restoring workers’ freedom to choose for themselves whether to join a union. Opponents of EFCA state that this would cause undue peer pressure to sign a card in favor of a labor union. They claim that the Employee Free Choice Act would replace the good old secret ballot. So where is the truth? Somewhere in the middle.
Join us on August 13 for a seminar about EFCA, the benefits and consequences of this proposed legislation. Presented by Leonard Segal from Oberman Thompson& Segal, LLC. Lunch will be provided.
